Recreation

Renfrew County is known for its beautiful scenery, clear water, and pristine beaches. You can enjoy many outdoor activities such as golfing, fishing, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, cycling, snowshoeing, skating, boating, hunting, skiing (X-Country and downhill), sailing, scuba diving, caving, whitewater rafting, camping, snowmobiling and ATVing.

In Ontario, there are more than 20 provincial parks and the largest and most famous of those, Algonquin Park, is next door to CRL and Renfrew County.

The Province of Quebec also has some stunning National Parks.

Ottawa Valley Travel Guide
Travel our Backyard

Driftwood Provincial Park
There are many interlocking trail loops from 1km to 3.7 km long, in a forested location, skirting a bay with sandy beaches on the Ottawa River. Lookouts from high points or at the river's edge afford picturesque views across to the Laurentian Hills and to the mouth of the Dumoine River in Quebec. Day and campsite passes can be purchased at the park office (Tel: 613 586-2553 or 705 744-2276 ). Although the park's gate is closed for the winter, visitors may enter for hiking, snowshoeing and cross-county skiing.

The Barron Canyon
The Barron Canyon Trail is a 1.5 km looped trail that passes through pine forest to the rim of a 100 m deep canyon, which is one of the most spectacular sights in Algonquin Park.

High Falls
High Falls is a small water chute, perfect for a picnic and a favourite spot in Algonquin Park for a swim to cool off in the heat of summer. This well marked trail through mixed forest, is a pleasant and direct walk to the falls. For a longer walking trip to High Falls, use the Eastern Pines Backpacking Trails that begin from Achray.
